Owner Surrender

***We are currently on owner surrender intake hold. We MAY be able to accept owner surrenders if you are able to foster in place. This means keeping the dog in your home while we work to find an adopter.***

We are overloaded with dogs and applications from owners needing to surrender their dogs and we simply don’t have enough volunteers, fosters or funds.

Please, please work with your dogs to try and keep them. Dogs are a lifetime commitment. Do whatever you have to do to keep them. Here is some helpful information on how to keep your dog: https://www.thesprucepets.com/dont-dump-your-dog-1117268

Remember that your dog would rather get a few minutes of love and attention from you a day than end up in a shelter.

We do understand certain circumstances are beyond people’s control. We wish we could help EVERY single shepherd, they deserve it, but just like every other rescue, we are beyond capacity.

Please be patient with us.

Thank you all 💙

If you are the owner of the dog you want to surrender, please fill out the form below. You will also need to email a copy of your pets’ medical records to oklahomagsr@gmail.com. You can get these records by calling or emailing your vet’s office. We also need photos of your dog showing the head and full body, preferrably in daylight so it is easier to see. Applications without photos of the dog cannot be evaluated. After submitting your form, please either email or text photos to oklahomagsr@gmail.com or 918-928-9944. We cannot approve your application without photos.

Be sure to check your email inbox and spam folders after submitting your application, as that is how we will communicate with you. An email notifying you if you are approved will come from Shelterluv.

If the dog you are wanting to surrender is a stray, local law may require the animal to serve a “stray hold” at the shelter as this provides the best chance of the dog being reunited with its owner. Please contact your local animal shelter or the closest SPCA or humane society for more information.

If a German Shepherd you found does go to the local shelter for a stray hold, please contact OK GSR and let us know so that we may pull the dog if the owner is not found.

Please answer the following questions as fully and honestly as possible to assist us in finding the best home for your dog. Misrepresentation of any kind will result in denial of your application. If you rehome your dog after submitting this application, please notify us so we can remove you from our list so we may help others. Unfortunately, we cannot take mixes as it is almost impossible for us to get them adopted. If your dog is a mix, we recommend contacting all-breed rescues for help.

Please allow up to 5 business days for processing. We are an all-volunteer group with no paid staff. Many of our volunteers work full-time jobs and help the rescue in their spare time. We strive to reply to everyone in a timely manner. If you don’t hear from us in a reasonable amount of time, please follow up with us by email at oklahomagsr@gmail.com. Please note, your application will be processed quickly if you fill it out completely and email medical records and email/text photos.
